L is for Lush 🎛️

Released in 1993 as part of Orbital’s Brown Album, Lush 3 is a two-part track (Lush 3-1 and Lush 3-2) that exemplifies the Hartnoll brothers’ approach to electronic music. Seamlessly transitioning from Planet of the Shapes on the A-side, the track blends intricate synthesiser work—including a Roland Jupiter-6 for the fast sequence and a Korg Wavestation for the lead line—with vocal samples from #KirstyHawkshaw.

The single gained acclaim through remixes by #Underworld, #PsychickWarriorsovGaia, and #CJBolland, expanding its global reach. A staple of Orbital’s live sets, Lush featured at standout performances like #BlueDotFestival and #BBCBiggestWeekend and was later included as a live recording on the Wonky Double CD album, showcasing its timeless appeal.

A hallmark of the Brown Album’s seamless structure, Lush 3 remains a shining example of collaboration, creativity, and enduring influence in electronic music.
