The Story of Belfast

Originally written in 1989 after a rainy shift at Pizza Piazza, “Belfast” became one of Orbital’s most beloved tracks — a slow-building, emotional anthem named after a life-changing gig at Belfast Art College.

The track features a haunting vocal sample of “O Euchari” performed by Emily Van Evera, originally composed by 12th-century mystic Hildegard von Bingen — a sample discovered by accident while re-recording the track.

From a reworked 1995 version filmed in the Hartnolls’ family pub, to remixes by David Holmes and DJ Anna, and a recent spotlight in the film Kneecap, “Belfast” continues to evolve, and resonate.
