In 1996, Orbital turned a dream into a track, and a track into a short film. The Box was built around a recurring vision Paul Hartnoll had of a wooden box he could never open.
Tilda Swinton brought it to life in stop-motion, wandering East London in a loop of repetition and ritual. It earned a BRIT nomination and quickly became one of their most iconic works.
Decades on, the track still echoes: remixed by the likes of JorisVoorn, Bump & Grind, and Orbital themselves with the 30 Something Years Later Mix.
In 2024, she returned. Tilda Swinton joined Orbital live at Glastonbury to debut a spoken-word rework of 1989’s ‘Deeper’, titled ‘Deepest’, released in April 2025.
