S is for Style ⚠️

Approach with an open mind. And maybe a Stylophone.

Style isn’t just a track—it’s an experiment in sonic identity. First released as part of an EP in 1999 alongside five other tracks, it landed on The Middle of Nowhere a month later. Built around the unmistakable Stylophone, a pocket-sized analog synth, it bridges 1960s novelty with Orbital’s futuristic rave arsenal.

But the real magic? Style was never just one track. It was four.

🎥 Style (Original Music Video directed by Luke Losey) — The blueprint. Stylophone-led, quirky, and unmistakably Orbital.

🪈 Bigpipe Style — Bagpipes in a dance track? Only Orbital. This mix swaps the Stylophone for a soaring bagpipe riff, and even sneaks in a sample from Suzi Quatro’s Devil Gate Drive.

🎸 New Style — A remix with a retro twist. A tip of the hat to Stereolab and Mororik Music, with live bass from Andy James (formerly of Pressure of Speech and now Orbital’s Tour Manager). Paul even describes it as containing “a little bit of glam rock.”

🔊 Old Style — The club-focused cut. Stripped-down, punchy, and built to hit harder on the dancefloor.

Four versions, four approaches, one undeniable Style.
