K is for Kraftwerk 🚀
Orbital’s remix of Kraftwerk’s Expo 2000 bridges two generations of electronic music. Introduced to Kraftwerk’s The Man-Machine by their older brother, the Hartnoll brothers often credited the German pioneers as foundational to their sound. Paul shared, “Computer World sounded and looked like the future,” while Phil called Trans-Europe Express “mind-blowing… simplicity and repetition with machines at the controls.”
Created as a jingle for the Hanover Expo 2000, Expo 2000 was reimagined by Orbital in a way that fused Kraftwerk’s precision with their own modern energy. Phil summed it up: “You find yourself remixing Kraftwerk! I was like, hello!”
More than a remix, it was a moment of connection between two electronic music generations.
